About This Piece
An entryway bench takes more abuse than almost any other piece of furniture in the house — sat on while pulling on boots, loaded with bags, bumped by kids and dogs. This one is built to handle all of it without complaint.
The seat is solid walnut, typically 1.75 inches thick, with breadboard ends that allow the top to move seasonally without cracking. The legs are joined to the apron with drawbored mortise and tenon joints — a technique that mechanically locks the joint without relying on glue alone.
